Panel w/ Mehreen Faruqi - Why We Need Women of Colour in Positions of Power

"Nothing about us, without us" is the saying… yet why do organisations and institutions, who hold so much power over us, so rarely have women of colour in decision-making positions? What would it take to see women of colour elevated to positions of power across the country? Is it possible to enter mainstream institutions and change them from within, or must we create our own power through our own organisations?

What would the world look like, if women of colour had institutional power in proportion to our representation?

And how much would this upset the rise of far-right authoritarianism around the globe?

We are not content to be your diversity hire, your frontline faces only. Our stories matter, and deserve to be uplifted. So join us for an afternoon of questions, discussion, and networking.

Facilitated by Remah Naji, Palestinian community organiser and Greens candidate for Moreton, panelists will include:

- Mehreen Faruqi - Deputy Leader of the Australian Greens, and Senator for New South Wales

- Dr Amy McQuire - Darambul and South Sea Islander Woman, Journalist, and post-doctoral Indigenous fellow at QUT School of Communications

- Yasmin Khan - Author, CEO at The Bangle Foundation

- Dung Tran - CEO and founder at Our Race

There will be an opportunity for connecting with one another, community-building and light refreshments towards the end of the event.

We acknowledge the Yuggera and Turrbal peoples as the traditional custodians and rightful owners of the lands on which we gather. Sovereignty over this place has never been ceded, and restitution for historical and ongoing colonial occupation has yet to be realised. Wherever we are on this continent, it always was and always will be Aboriginal land.

Will you come?
