The housing and cost of living crisis is caused by corporate greed, and the major parties are trying to blame immigrants as a distraction. But Australia's immigration system is already one of the strictest in the world.
Families who wish to reunite with loved ones face difficult challenges when applying for partner visas, visitor visas, student visas and other family reunion visa classes. Visa fees are too high, processing times are too slow, and many applicants experience rejections without a good reason.
Meanwhile refugees fleeing war, hardship and persecution are increasingly demonised and persecuted. Many asylum seekers remain stuck on bridging visas and other temporary visas for many years, unable to settle down in the community because they're afraid of being deported without warning.
The Australian government must stop persecuting immigrants, and create an immigration processing system that gives migrants a fair go.
