Southside residents are struggling with out-of-control living costs, from food to housing to healthcare to energy to education.
Despite what some government economists might claim, it’s getting harder to make ends meet.
For some people, rising rents or high interest rates are the biggest challenge. For others, it’s the cost of dental care, mental healthcare or seeing a GP. And for many residents on income support, their Aged Pension, Disability Support Pension, Youth Allowance or Jobseeker payments are nowhere near high enough to pay the bills.
We need urgent changes across a wide range of government policy areas to put downward pressure on housing and healthcare costs, and raise incomes for those who are struggling the most.
Fortunately, Australia can afford to deliver cost of living relief by making big corporations pay their fair share of tax.
