Support better planning and protection for koalas on Brissie's southside

Toohey Forest is one of the largest urban forest reserves in Australia, but its koala population is under threat. Koalas are increasingly being attacked by dogs and hit by cars in Brisbane suburbs, and with more and more vehicles using Toohey Rd and other road corridors surrounding the forest, we need to act now.

To protect the safe movement of local koalas, we need to enhance existing wildlife corridors by planting more koala-friendly trees in local parks and streets, and establishing new public parks to link existing green spaces.

We call on Brisbane City Council to develop a comprehensive, well-resourced Koala Management Plan for Toohey Forest and surrounding nature reserves to ensure this endangered koala population can grow and thrive.

We also call for lower speed limits on streets where koalas cross regularly, and better wildlife corridors between Toohey Forest, Wellers Hill, Mt Gravatt Outlook Reserve and Whites Hill Reserve.
